Robert Davis

August 20, 1938 — September 22, 2004

Robert J. "Bob" Davis of Port Orchard, Washington died September 22, 2004 at his residence due to a long term illness. He was 66. He was born August 20, 1938 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Clifford D. and Emily (Murtaugh) Davis. Bob married Lucy L. Gibson November 18, 1989 in Oxnard, California. He attended school in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army. Bob enjoyed woodworking, computing; was very close with family and friends; was an avid reader (particularly, Civil War and tech manuals). The epitome of a modern day Renaissance man, Bob was not only multi-talented but his life experiences ran the gamut from wool stomper, to SCUBA diving, medic, avionics shop owner, moving company manager, to member of the United States Parafrog Team. (Now, there's a story!) While working for a well-known communications company, a regular "shakedown cruise" to test new systems turned into a months' long mission off the coast of Russia tracking their missile launches during the Cold War. Proud of his early association with NASA, he worked in communication technology in its infancy to the present, spending twenty years in Civil Service for the United States Navy, specializing in designing and building test systems for missile tracking. He had been a licensed pilot, glider pilot, and was a gourmet cook as attested to by his family and friends. He could and did build anything from a magazine cover rose arbor to a tree house for his grandchildren. He and Lucy were regular movie goers and friends often asked their opinion of the latest flick. Bob is survived by his wife, Lucy of the Port Orchard, Washington family home; sons - Robert Davis (& wife, Susan) of Washington state, Donald Davis of Warden, Washington, Timothy Hilf (& wife, Debi) of Ventura, California, Daniel Hilf (& wife, Deb) of Port Orchard, Washington; daughters - Cindy Weimerskirsch (& husband, Doug) of Coulee City, Washington, Christine Hilf of Malden, Massachusetts; sister - Rose Ann Lopez (& husband, Art) of Gillette, Wyoming; grandchildren (12): Carman, Jennifer, Clayton, Zachary, Christyn, Sarah, Ashley, Rory, Victoria, Tyler, Daniel, Amanda Rose; great-grandson - Damien. He was preceded in death by: brothers - Roger and Reine Davis. Memorial donations may be made to: Hospice of Kitsap County P.O. Box 3416 Silverdale, WA 98383
