Robert "Butch" Hawkins, 80 of Port Orchard, Washington died in Bremerton, Washington on February 15, 2009. He was born on September 6, 1928 in Miles City, Montana to James and Ada (Williams) Hawkins. He married Marillyn Wheeler on September 19, 1955 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 2004. Butch was a Merchant Marine during World War II. He drove truck for Blackball and was a 55 year member of Local 699 Sprinkler Fitters in Seattle, Washington. Surviving are sons Edward (Marla) Hawkins of Gig Harbor, WA, Shawn (Bambi) Hawkins of Pasco, WA & Jerry (Valarie) Hawkins of Bremerton; daughters Betty (Scott) Benson of Ellensburg, WA & Amy (Greg) Shurts of Port Orchard; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret White, Joyce (Jim) Swanson, Mary Anne (Wayne) Nettekoven & Delana Cox; and brother Donald (Sandie) Hawkins. He was preceded in death by brothers Niel & James and sisters Nellie Hughes & Ruth Kilburn. Memorial service will be at 2:00pm on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart or American Lung Associations.
