Robert Franklin Holmes was born July 10, 1925 to Jesse and Helen Holmes in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of six children, and they grew up during the Depression. When he was a young man, he was sent to Henry Ford Trade School to help support his family. After he graduated, he proudly served his country in both the Army and the Navy. His first marriage was to Patricia Corey, and they had a son, Jamieson. That marriage ended in divorce. Bob then married his childhood sweetheart, Virginia Tallman, and adopted her daughter from Virginia’s first marriage, Rene. They all moved to Bremerton and Bob got a job with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company as a Metrologist, where he worked til his retirement. In 1975, Bob and Virginia had a daughter, Rachel. Jamieson married Sandy and they had a daughter, Alex. They live in Florida. Sadly, in 1990, Rene passed away from liver failure. Virginia passed away from emphysema in 2001. Bob then moved in with his daughter Rachel, her husband Andy, and their two sons, Chandler and Brent. At the age of 80, Bob found love again with Dottie, someone he knew from his younger days in Michigan. Bob discovered he had found the love of his life. They were married, moved to Port Orchard, and had 5 happy years together, until tragically, Dottie died suddenly of a brain injury. Bob then lived alone until his health started to decline, and in November of 2014, he moved into Stafford Suites senior living facility. He made friends, and was taken care of very well.
Besides his fierce love for his family and God, Bob enjoyed amateur photography, bowling, both playing and watching golf, and was an avid bird watcher. His favorite color was yellow. His favorite pet was a little toy poodle named Tina. He has two brothers still living, Ken and Harvey. Bob was very proud of his entire family. He loved his three grandchildren very much. He was great at telling stories about his life and his adventures, but he could also pontificate about politics, sports, or anything else that popped into his head. He loved cheesecake.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Green Mountain Elementary School, or Klahowya Secondary School, both in Bremerton, WA. People can contact Rachel and she can help with getting the donations where they need to go.
