Robert R. Howlett, 71 of Port Orchard, died June 21, 1999 at Highline Community Hospital in Burien. He was born January 1, 1928 in Utica, New York to Arthur S. & Gladys I. (Bullock) Howlett. He was raised in New York and graduated from Nickolson High School in Nickolson, Pennsylvania in 1945. He married Gladys S. Smith on Decemeber 15, 1946 in Nickolson, Pennsylvania. Mr. Howlett served in the U. S. Marines from 1946 to 1947 with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked as a Machinist for 30 years, retiring in 1985 from the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, California. Robert was member and Past Master of Temple Lodge #14 F&AM in Sonoma,California; member of Masonic Lodge #98 in Port Orchard; member & Past Patron Valley of the Moon #85 in Boyes Hot Springs, California; Order of Eastern Star; American Legion Post #489 in Sonoma; Scottish Rite Bremerton; WA Shrine Club, Nile Temple A.A.O.M.S. Bremerton; Elks Lodge #2650 Gig Harbor; VFW Post #1943 Sonoma; 1st Marine Division, Marine Association; and volunteer with the Valley of the Moon, Boyes Hot Springs Fire District for 22 years. Survivors include daughters Sharon Parker of Silverdale and Janet Burns of Port Orchard; brother Arthur Howlett of Vacaville, California; grandchildren Richard Burns Jr., Robin Peterson, Steven Parker, Rebecca Burns, Karl Parker, Cynthia Parker; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Paul. Visitation will be at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard Thursday, June 24th from Noon to 5:00pm and Friday, June 25th from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Funeral Services at at Rill Chapel on Friday, June 25, 1999 at 1:00pm with interment following at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.
