The “Mayor” of Landon Rd has died! Family, neighbors and friends are mourning the death of Bob Landon on January 8, 2010 at his home from Mesothelioma cancer. Bob was born in Aberdeen, WA to Thomas and Hazel Landon. His family moved shortly to Edmonds and then to Bremerton where he attended Bremerton schools, graduating from Bremerton HS in 1942. Shortly after graduation, he worked in the PSNS for a brief time before joining the U.S. Merchant Marine. He served in the engine rooms of tankers, Victory ships, C-2 cargo ships in the South Pacific during WWII. He attended the U.S. Maritime Officer Academy, graduating as a Third Engineer and achieved the status of LT. before the end of WWII. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey L. Thompson on Aug. 9, 1946. After a short time in CA, they returned to Seattle where he was employed by Tidewater Oil Company as a warehouseman and outside salesman in Seattle, and Area Supervisor in the Wenatchee area. In 1958, the family returned to Seattle and bought a heating oil company, renamed it Landon Fuel, and Bob and Audrey worked together for 28 years in their business. During this time, Bob was active in the Highline Kiwanis Club, in the capacity of Club President, Pacific N.W. Lt. Gov. and District Chairman. After retirement, he transferred to North Mason Kiwanis Club in Belfair and was an active member until his illness. In retirement, Bob and Audrey traveled to most of the countries of the world, including China, So. America, Australia, New Zealand and countries of Europe. They also cruised with their family members to the Canadian and American San Juan Islands. Motorhoming around the U.S. for 10 yrs. was another of their activities. They felt they had the best of two worlds, wintering in Mesa, AZ and their home on Landon Rd. on the Northshore of Hood Canal. Bob is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Audrey, of 63 yrs; daughter Kay (Rush) Youngberg of Belfair; son Craig (Cathy) Landon of Renton; grandsons Erik (Brandi) Youngberg of Port Orchard and Daron Youngberg of San Diego; granddaughters Allison Youngberg of Bellingham and Kelly Youngberg of Seattle; niece Kathy (Mike) Hill; and nephews Mike and Steve DuPont of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Dupont. A Private Graveside Service will be held January 15th at 3:00pm at the Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 11:00am at the Belfair Baptist Church. Remembrances may be made to the Providence Hospice of Mason County, 2146 W.
