Robert Ogletree

Ken was born March 13 1933 to Robert A and Thelma Ogletree in San Pedro California. He moved to Belfair, Washington at the age of 5. Ken attended Belfair schools and skipped the 5th grade. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1950 at the age of 17. Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served aboard the USS Mt McKinley which saw action during the Korean conflict. He was an ET3 at the end of his enlistment in 1955. Ken married his wife Shirley on Feb.7 1953 in Reno, Nevada. After the Navy he moved his family to the Manchester area. He also lived in Olalla before settling in Port Orchard in 1964. Ken joined the National Guard in 1955 and served until 1962. He worked for the Seattle Worlds Fair in1961-1962. Afterwards he worked for Keyport Naval Torpedo Station where he retired in 1977 as an electronics engineer. Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad. He  was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 25 and as his disease progressed Ken had to give up many of the activities he enjoyed but continued on with his life and made the best of his situation. Ken was elected to the South Kitsap School Board in 1975 and served as Director of District 3 and as president. He was involved in the construction and renovation of several schools including the present high school. He served on the board until 1980. Ken was dedicated to providing the best education possible to South Kitsap students. Ken was involved with South Kitsap Eastern Little League for 10 years coaching an managing teams. Ken enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, barbecues, and his family.   Ken passed away peacefully at his residence. Ken left behind his wife of 58 years Shirley, children Robert Alan Ogletree, Lori Hughes, Randy Ogletree and wife Jeanette,and Dan Ogletree. Grandchildren are Nichole Hughes,Melissa Roundy and husband Flynn, Robert Aaron Ogletree and wife Jennifer, Melanie Cochran and husband Anthony, Matthew Ogletree, Deanna Johnson, Christina Garza, Casey Ogletree, Cameron Ogletree, and Ryan Taylor. Great-grandchildren Jacob Hughes, Robert James(RJ) Ogletree, Breyden Ogletree, Patrick Garza, Joshua Garza, Justice Garza, Logan Roundy, and Aidan Roundy. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Steven Taylor. Robert Kenneth Ogletree, know that your wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren love and will truly miss you.
