Robert Risher

Robert Lee Risher of Port Orchard, Washington died March 5, 2006 in Bremerton, Washington. He was 76. He was born February 1, 1930 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Harold Edwin Risher and Irene Elizabeth (Klinger) Risher. He married Margot M. (Molter) Risher June 9, 1953 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She died in 1988. Robert graduated from Garfield in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1948; and, attended Rose (Poly) Hulman Tech Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana; however, he was drafted into the military. He graduated from University of Denver in Denver, Colorado in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science. Robert served in the U.S. Army from 5/17/1951 - 8/25/1955 - attaining rank of SGT (T). He served in the Korean War - 2 tours (51-53); was in the Army Reserve (1953- 1955). Robert received the korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal and 2 Overseas Bars. He was employed for 27 plus years as an engineer (Electrical Engineer/Tech. Supervisor) at Vitro Corp - retiring in 1985. He was Senior Supervisor with Technical Support Group under government contracts with Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport, Washington. Projects included the Polaris, Fast Attack and Trident Submarine Weapon Systems. He was involved in home renovation and construction. Robert (Bob) took early retirement in 1985 to care for his wife Peggy as she fought cancer. Together, they purchased several rental properties and renovated these houses. Bob continued working on these properties, as well as helping his sons' construction projects until his last days. He was a member of VFW - Post 268, Bremerton, Washington; Brotherhood of Elks - Bremerton, Washington (1968 - 1975); Banner Forest/Great Peninsula Conservancy - Port Orchard, Washington. He enjoyed helping others, good food ("Gourmet Group" - + 30 years with circle of close friends) and his grandchildren - Alex and Mackenzie. He was a Community Activist - Banner Forest/Olalla Growth Management. Robert is survived by sons - Ronald Lee Risher (Yun C.) of Port Orchard, Washington, Trevor Lane Risher (Linda J.) - also of Port Orchard; grandsons - Alexander L. and Mackenzie M. Risher; sister-in-law, Kate Risher of Winter Haven, Florida. He was preceded in death by wife - Margot M. (Molter) Risher in 1988; parents - Harold Edwin Risher & Irene Elizabeth (Klinger) Risher, and brother - William E. Risher. A public memorial and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the American Legion Hall - Post 30 at 615 Kendall St., Port Orchard, Washington. Inurnment will be held at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, Washington with a private ceremony.
