Robert M. Townsend of Tahuya, Washington area since 1942 died September 1, 2006 at Harrison Meidical Center in Bremerton, Washington. He was 67. He was born June 8, 1939 in Newcastle, Wyoming to Clinton and Amber (Jones) Townsend. He primary residence since 1942 was Belfair, Washington. He married Lynn (Palmer) Townsend November 21, 1959 in Long Beach, California. He graduated from south Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, Washington in 1957. Robert served in the U.S. Navy Air from 1963 - 1965; and, was honorably discharge d, October 1970. He was a foreman at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington (Shop #71) for 29 years - retiring in 1993. Robert was a lifetime member of the Hood Canal Masonic Lodge, Belfair, Washington. "Shorty", his Schnauzer pal, will be missing him and his pocket treats. A talented and creative cook, from Dutch oven Basque Bread to barbecued salmon, many have enjoyed his efforts for years. Shop/Mechanics/cars: He found joy in mastery of all things mechanical - auto restoration, designing and building horse carts, rebuilding John Deere tractors, collecting parts inventory. Robert is survived by his wife - Lynn Townsend of Tahuya, Washington; son - Keith R. Townsend (Kelly) of Port Orchard, Washington; daughter - Denise Townsend (Matt Fahey) of Portland, Oregon; brother - Clinton Roy Townsend of Deming, New Mexico; grandchildren (3): Allison, Emma, Oliva Townsend. A memorial service will be held at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 2:30 p.m.
