Bobbe Meyer, 85, of Port Orchard passed away at home on May 30, 2014 surrounded by her large family. She lived her life valiantly and peacefully upon her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and until her passing.
Bobbe was born an only child to Marie L. (Daze) Barnes and Robert E. Barnes in Santa Monica CA in 1929. Husband Clayton (Clay) L. Meyer, her parents, infant son Curtis, and grandchildren Curtis Meyer and Joshua Meyer preceded her in death. She is survived by 10 children, daughters Cynthia Peters (Phil), Cathleen Morrow (Randy), Patricia Armstrong (Dan), Marianne Meyer, and sons Clayton R. Meyer (Ruth), Carey Meyer (Becky), Bradley Meyer, John V. Meyer, Edward Meyer, Thomas Meyer, 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Bobbe had an incredible extended family as well, and many life time friends that she maintained contact with until her passing. Her best friend Izzy from childhood also relocated to Port Orchard, moving just a few doors down the street. They remained lifetime buddies and were inseparable until her passing 3 years ago.
Bobbe and Clay began their journey in the Los Angeles area, and eventually relocated to Northern CA to operate Clay’s Happy Hollow for a few years, a bar and grille, boat launch, and trailer park located in Chico CA. By then they had nine children. They relocated to Petaluma CA after selling Clay's Happy Hollow, where Clay began his career working for the Federal Government, then relocated again to Port Orchard WA in 1971 bringing with them most of the children, where they all remained. All surviving children live in Port Orchard, Bremerton, and Silverdale.
Bobbe was a homemaker, venturing out into the work force for a few years when her youngest children became teenagers. Bobbe worked at H&P Drug Store in Port Orchard for a couple of years in the mid-to late 70’s and then moved on to work as a food handler for the South Kitsap School District until Clay retired. She also volunteered at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, playing the guitar during mass, teaching 8th grade Sunday School, and being a Eucharistic Minister. Then Bobbe retired too and she and Clay traveled around the country in their RV for a few years until Clay‘s medical problems brought them back home Port Orchard. Clay passed away in 2004. They were married for 56 years. Bobbe passed away on what would have been their 66th Wedding Anniversary. She was looking forward to her reunion with Clay, and all who preceded her in death.
Bobbe most wants to be remembered as a mother of 11 children and devoted wife. Those were her most important achievements, her love of family and her love and devotion to Christ the Lord. She was a great woman and very spiritual, and she will be missed dearly by all. Her family appreciates all the kind words and memories during this time of mourning, and greatly appreciate GroupHealth Hospice for their support and care to Bobbe and her family throughout her illness.
A memorial mass at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Port Orchard will be Sat, Jun 14 at 1:00. There will be a reception at the church after the memorial, followed by a pot luck gathering hosted by her children at the home of Bobbe and Clay Meyer at 2994 SE Travera Ave in Port Orchard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children‘s Research Hospital.
