Roberta Bouwens

Roberta ''Bobbie'' Bouwens, age 84, died May 26, 2001 in Bremerton, WA.Mrs. Bouwens was born January 11, 1917 in Battle Creek, MI to Robert and Tressa Mott.Bobbie attended Lansing Central High School and Michigan State College. After graduating, she married Howard Bouwens with whom she enjoyed a 57 year marriage until his death in 1998.For a number of years, Bobbie taught sunday school at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member. After her two children were in school, she had a long career with the Lansing Public School system as an attendance officer, retiring in 1972.Her very happy life with Howard included lots of bridge and golf with a rich circle of very close friends and family. Following retirement they became ''snowbirds,'' enjoying both Clearwater, Florida and their home of 50 years in Lansing. Since her husband's death, Bobbie has lived near her daughter and grandchildren in the Seattle area.Interment will be at a later date in Lansing with a get together of friends and family to remember and celebrate her life. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: Building Fund, First Lutheran Church of Port Orchard, 2483 Mitchell Rd SE, Port Orchard, WA., 98367.Surviving are: daughter Cynthia Peterson and son Don Bouwens, grandchildren Tim and Shannon Mackie, Stacy Maldonado, Sarah Erb, Alex and Quinn Bouwens, great grandchildren Brooke and Howard Mackie, Madilyn and Eli Mackie, Nicholas, Jakob and Grace Maldonado, Jenna and Julia Erb.
