Rodney Miller

May 31, 1926 — August 14, 2006

Rodney C. Miller was peacefully called home to be with our Lord on August 14, 2006. He was 80 years old. Rod, as his friends and family knew him, was born May 31, 1926 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Jason & Mary (Coffman) Miller. He was raised in Mt. Jackson, Virginia along with his younger brothers, Robert & Charles Miller, who both preceded him in death. As a young man he first worked at Shenandoah Electric Corporation until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was aboard the U.S.S. Pittsburgh when it broke apart in high seas. He was later honorably discharged. Enjoying Washington State while the Navy had him stationed here, he decided to make his home in Bremerton where he married and began his family. Puget Sound Power and Light Company employed Rodney until he retired on June 1, 1986 as a Foreman after 35 years with the same company. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion where he twice served as post president. He was Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving also with the drum and bugle core and the Honor Guard. He often volunteered at Retsil Nursing Home visiting with the residents, transporting them to appointments or taking them out for the day. Rod hunted and loved to fish, but mostly loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Rod is survived by his wife Berniece; daughters Gloria Jean Brown of Chehalis, Washington and Mary Lauraine Maddocks of Puyallup, Washington; grandchildren Leah, Rodney, Kertis, Kandis and DeeAnn; great-grandchildren Lacee, JayDee, Ashlee, Fletcher and Bailea; and several extended family children and grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on August 25, 2006 at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Retsil Nursing Home or the Port Orchard VFW.
