Ronald Allen

Ronald Gene Allen, 73, died at his home in Port Orchard on October 30, 2011.  He was born August 25, 1938 in Caldwell, ID to Mabel E & Roy V. Allen.  His early years were spent in the Caldwell area until completion of his sophomore year of high school when he moved to Usk, WA to join his parents and younger sister who had moved earlier.  He completed his high school education and graduated from Cusick High School in May of 1956. On May 28, 1956, he joined the Coast Guard and attended marine electrician schooling in Groton, CT.  He served on the ice cutter North Wind, taking part in the November 1956 Operation Deep Freeze in the South Pole.  He traveled extensively, hitting parts from the North Pole and South Pole covering the Pacific Ocean.  His favorite place was New Zealand. Ronald met his wife, Lavelle in Seattle on March 9, 1958 and married her on December 19, 1959.  He was honorably discharged in May of 1960 and continued in the inactive reserve for an additional 2 years.  After his discharge, he worked as a Marine Electrician at Harris Electric at Fisherman's Warf and Todd Shipyard. In August of 1961 he began his apprenticeship in the navy yard as a Machinist in Shop 38 and completing that, went on into Nuclear Power (Refueling) and later became a Leadingman.  He finished his government employment as a Progressman Leadingman, retiring in 1993. His affiliation to Fraternal Groups was the Bremerton Elks Lodge 1181 and the Port Orchard Eagles Aeries 2338, serving as secretary for several years before poor health required he give that job up.  He continued to have coffee with his friends at the Eagles when his health issues allowed it. Surviving are mother Mabel Allen; wife Lavelle; sons Robert (Laurie), Roger (Colleen), and Roy (Patti); 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister Dee (Bug) Webb and their 2 sons; his mother-in-law and other extended family on his wife's side. Memorial service at 10:00 am on November 11, 2011 at the Eagles on Jackson Avenue.
