Ronald E. Wooten, 70, died at his home in Port Orchard, Washington on February 8, 2008. He was born February 24, 2937 in Indio, California to L.B. & Avis (Peer) Wooten. He graduated from Sanoma High School in 1955 and Napa Community College in California in 1961. He married Janet R. Ames on November 19, 1983 in Port Orchard.
Ronald worked for 30 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, retiring in 1993. He was a Production Shop Planner, Marine Machinist in Shop 38. He also worked for 3 years as an Automobile Salesman and for Custom Camera Design, starting as a "Shucker", Training Officer, Safety Officer, advancing to Human Resources Director within 2 years. He served in the U.S. Army as an E-6 Staff Sargent from 1955 to 1964. He earned Expert Marksmanship Badge and 100% Attendance Badge. He worked at Eielson AFB in Alaska where he played football & wrestled.
Ronald enjoyed visiting family and his cats "Bushy Tail & Bootes". He liked sports, particularly college & professional football, genealogy and the family tree, and the computer. He was an Ambassador for Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America in Bremerton serving as Scout Master, Cub Master & District Commissioner from 1960 to 1996. He belonged to the Lions Club in Port Orchard as President, Secretary, and Zone Chairman receiving the Zone Chairman Efficiency Award for 9-15 clubs from 1990 to 1991.
Surviving are wife Janet; Mother Avis Bailey of Port Orchard; sons Randy Wooten of Montana & Bryan Petro of Port Orchard; daughters Mary Ann Threasher of Port Orchard, Martha Gordillo of Sun Valley Nevada & Janel (Eric) Johnson of Florida; brothers Bill (Caroline) Bailey of Salt Lake Utah, Don (Martha) Bailey of Bend, OR; half brother Bobby Wooten of California; sisters Pat (Gary) Guggenbickler of Scottsdale, Arizona, half sisters Vera Fern of Louisiana, Debbie of Ohio, and Nancy Tucker of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service at 1:00pm on May 16, 2008 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Inurnment following at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor.
