Russell E. Eckstrom, 83, of Manchester, WA, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Port Orchard Care Center. He was born January 21, 1920, in Redwing, MN, to Edwin and Lillian (Pince) Eckstrom. On June 12, 1943, he married Marian L. Eli in Fayetteville, NC. Mr. Eckstrom served in the Army from 1941 to 1945, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Liberty of Freedom Medal. He went on to work as a machinist at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Keyport, WA, for 23 years retiring in 1984. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife Marian, of Manchester; three sons, Warren Eckstrom of Lynnwood, WA, Donald Eckstrom of Shoreline, WA, and Russell Eckstrom of Olympia, WA; four daughters, Louise Henslee of Port Orchard, WA, Mary Marten of Port Orchard, Theresa Harty of Vancouver, WA, and Cathy George of Puyallup, WA; three brothers, John Eckstrom of Bremerton, WA, Jim Eckstrom of Seattle, WA, and Norm Eckstrom, of Poulsbo, WA; one sister, Geraldine Jones of Minneapolis, MN; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Mr. Eckstrom was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Eckstrom, a sister, Agnes Kosel, and a granddaughter, JP Eckstrom. A Rosary will be said at 10:30AM, Friday, January 2, 2004, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00AM at the church. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
