Russell L. Sweany, Jr.
02/17/1942 – 06/25/2020

Russell L. Sweany, Jr., 78, died peacefully at home in Longbranch, WA on June 25, 2020, just one month after he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 17, 1942 to Russell and Katherine Sweany of Port Orchard, WA. He was a graduate of South Kitsap High School, Class of 1960 and received a B.A. in Hotel Administration from Washington State University, Pullman, WA. He worked in the hospitality field, real estate and construction; enjoying finish carpentry the most. He married Lois Esau in 1963, and they had three children. He was a member of St. Hughs Episcopal church in Allyn. He was also a member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club (was Commodore in 2006). He loved classic boats, cars, dancing, history/museums; was a master craftsman in woodworking and the ’fix-it man’ to many. He especially enjoyed family/friend gatherings, grandchildren events, going down south and road trips every fall to attend the WSU Cougar football season. Russ is survived by his wife, Lois; their three children: Russell III (Jackie), Sherrie (Rod) Pierson and Kristine (Steve) Vanderleest; six grandchildren: Lorelei, Gracie, Natalie, Elizabeth, Kyle, Sarah, and one great grandchild, Dylan. Two sisters: Sara (Ted) Jones of Yuma, Kay Maris of Buckley; and a brother, Charles (Debbie) Fountain Valley, CA, numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins. A private family outdoor service was held at their home in Longbranch, WA – his ashes were spread over the waters he loved so much – Port Orchard and Longbranch. He will be forever in our hearts.
