Ruth I. DeShazer, 77, of Port Orchard, WA, died February 20, 2003, at Forest Ridge Health & Rehab in Bremerton, WA. Ruth was born March 14, 1925, in Hastings, IA, to Andrew Jackson and Iva Mae (Stockton) Stephens. She received her nursing degree in San Diego, CA.Ruth married Kenneth DeShazer on May 5, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1986.Ruth worked as an LPN at Edgemont Nursing Home in East San Diego, CA. She was involved in a CB radio club with her husband. Ruth loved animals, crocheting, and helped to raise 3 generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She belonged to the Southern Baptist faith.Survivors include 3 sons, Kenneth DeShazer, of San Diego, CA, Jesse DeShazer, of Bakersfield, CA, and Ronald DeShazer, of San Diego, CA; a daughter Jewell Waters, of Port Orchard, WA; a brother Jack Stephens, of New Mexico; a sister-in-law Velma Petty, of Escondido, CA; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by a son Robert DeShazer and 3 sisters Altha, Kathleen, and Cora Lee.A memorial service will be held at a later date in San Diego, CA.
