Ruth O Stockman

April 16, 1933 — March 16, 2014

Ruth Kathleen (Oelrichs) Stockman

Ruth passed away peacefully March 16, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born April 16, 1933 in Quincy, IL to Lois (Spencer) and Adolph Oelrichs. She lived in South Dakota for a few years then spent her school years in Milton-Freewater, OR where she graduated from high school in 1951 as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Oregon State University, graduating with a BS degree in 1956. While at OSU she met and married Richard (Dick) Stockman. Following Dick’s graduation they lived in New Jersey for short time, then Seattle until 1977, and settled in Silverdale, WA.

While in Silverdale Ruth began volunteering at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, WA and eventually became employed as Director of Volunteers until retiring in 1993. She is a member of Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church and in 1998, while serving as elder she was elected to represent the Presbytery at the yearly National General Assembly meeting in Charlotte, NC.

Ruth took care of her family with pride, and was a great cook. She raised three children and was involved in many activities with them. She enjoyed reading, sewing, camping trips with the family, her ladies Bible study group and the bridge group. She was close to her siblings, parents, in-laws, nieces, nephews and granddaughters. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

She and Dick enjoyed traveling to Europe, Japan, Korea, Israel, Australia and New Zealand. After retiring, they also enjoyed spending several weeks each summer boating on Puget Sound and north in the Canadian islands. A favorite yearly winter trip to Napili Bay on Maui was also a highlight where they made many good friends.

Ruth is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Dick; three children, daughters Cindy Nielsen of Seattle, Sally Hickman (Jimmy) of Maple Valley, and son Gregg Stockman (Shan-Marie) of Silverdale; five granddaughters, Felicia Jepson (Bryan), Katie, Jackie and Marcy Hickman, and Sophia Stockman; and great-granddaughter Layla Jepson. She is also survived by brother Lyman Oelrichs of Red Bluff, CA and sister Sally Ross (Bruce) of Scottsdale, AZ.

She was a beautiful person, wonderful mother, and loving wife who will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held April 5th at 2:00 pm at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church in Silverdale, WA. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to your favorite charity or to Alzheimer’s disease research. Online memorial at www.rill.com .
