Samuel Joseph Newton passed away in Gig Harbor Hospital, WA the day before his 69th birthday on the morning of October 4th 2016. Sam was born October 5th 1947 in Tacoma Washington and raised by his father Floyd Lavern Newton and mother Genevieve Newton where he was raised in the Tacoma area located in WA. Sam graduated from Mount Tahoma High School in 1966. Soon after graduating he entered the service as a Marine. Sam's service included a tour in Vietnam and later was discharged from the service. Sam was very proud of being a Marine and serving his country. Sam came back to the Tacoma area and went to trade school to become a welder and iron worker. Sam joined the 86/Iron Worker Union. Sam went to the Tri Cities for a couple of years and worked in the Hanford Nuclear site as a welder. He returned to the Tacoma area and got a job building the New Tacoma Bridge by the old Narrows Bridge and was very proud of being apart of that. Sam retired from the Iron workers as a result of injury. He then became a wheeler and dealer of all things, which he enjoyed doing very much and had his own business card printed Sam’s Stuff.
Sam didn’t let life slow him down he still pursued life with vigor even with the loss of his kidneys and a leg.
Sam’s father introduced him to fishing and hunting at an early age. Sam took pleasure fishing in the bay and ocean; he loved eating fish and crab. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends in the Little Natche area. He hunted with the bow and arrow, musket gun and rifle. His 1st kill was ruff and he was very sad but not long he enjoyed the true hunt as many boys do.
Sam’s personality came across as gruff and liked to argue his point. Sam did enjoy the game of making children and adults apprehensive of him but was truly a teddy bear in disguise. If needed a hand he would be there to help.
Sam is survived by his mother Gene, His brother Steve, and two sisters Pam Greinke and Cyndie Horvath. His father, Newt preceded him in death. Sam will be very missed by family and friends.
