On October 3, 2019, Shirley Jean Dinesen passed away. She was born in the small town of Olalla, Washington by midwife Opal Rhenman.
Olalla is where Shirley grew up. Her parents were Adam Tallman and Lucille Tallman. She is survived by one brother Jim Tallman and one sister Reva Huddleston. Her younger brother, Richard Tallman had passed away.
Shirley had joined the Air Force in 1952. She then met and married Clifford Rayl in 1953.
Port Orchard is where they settled and raised their eight daughters Christine Rayl, Jeanne Cronce, Donna Hanenburg, Janet Rayl, Patty Thomas, Carol Schuster, Bonnie Debord, and Marlene Rayl.
Our mom will be greatly missed by all who knew her. As her daughters we feel so blessed and fortunate to have had such a loving and caring mother who taught us how to garden for food and flowers, how to sew and knit, how to cook and clean for a large family and also how to share and care for each other.
Our father Clifford Rayl had passed away in 2007.
Shirley married John Dinesen in 1984 and they lived in Quilcene until his death in 1991.
Shirley then moved back to Port Orchard to be closer to her daughters until her recent death. She will be greatly missed.
