Sidney A. Duplex, was born April 24, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Sidney and Margaret (Reicher) Duplex. He was one of seven children
Sidney served in the Navy as a Water Tender 2nd class WW II aboard the USS The Sullivans (DD-537). On December 1, 1943, he married Mary H. Cunningham in Seattle, Washington. They built a home together where they raised their 4 children with love and guidance.
In 1979, he retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where he worked in the Design Department as an engineering technician. Made many ship checks to places like Guam and Rhoda Spain, and various other shipyards in the US.
Sidney loved gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He coached little league baseball, enjoyed family trips to Alta Lake in Eastern WA every summer. They were camping there when Mt St Helens erupted in 1983. He was an avid Seahawks and Mariners fan attending many Mariners games. His love for boxing carried over to the whole family and involved watching many fights together eating homemade pizza and sipping root beer floats; loved crossword puzzles and dancing the jitterbug in the living room with his wife. He was an avid bowler at West Park Lanes in Bremerton with the shipyard league and occasionally Hi-Joy with family. When he wasn’t at the lanes he went Air Bowling all over the house to stay in shape.
Sidney passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022 at his home in Port Orchard, at the age of 98. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, daughter Peggy Kelly, son Brian Duplex and his siblings, Theresa, Helen, Ruth, John, and Shirley.
