Sidney Jones

January 21, 1937 — December 13, 2005

Sidney Jones, Lt Cdr USN Retired January 21, 1937 - December 13, 2005 Sid died suddenly on the 4th hole of Gold Mountain Olympic Golf Course about 1 PM. He was golfing with his friends and co-worker, Jim Gregoire and Leon Crenshaw. Jim reported that Sid had just hit a 200 yard drive when he said that he felt dizzy, like he might pass out. His friends assisted him to a bench and said that he went down quickly. Jim and Leon administered CPR immediately and made a tremendous effort to revive Sid. He was transported to the Harrison Memorial hospital; unfortunately he had already passed away on arrival. Sid died doing one of the things that he truly loved, with people that he loved. He was 68 years old. The family, though sad and shocked about his passing, feel that if asked, this would have been the way to go. Sid lived his life with the energy and vigor of men half his age and his passing suddenly has taken everyone by surprise. Sid had enrolled at Olympic College for the winter quarter to take a class on computer web page programming (Dreamweaver). He made plans for fishing this spring and was looking forward to working the golf tournament coming to Gold Mountain this summer. Sid got up everyday with plans to do things and the drive to get them done. He was truly an inspiration. Dedicated to his family and his wife Virginia of 47 years, Sid's loss is painful but not the source of regret. He loved, and was loved by all that knew him. Those who were closest to him were blessed to be with him frequently in the month leading up to his death. Often the organizer of family gatherings and trips, Sid was always looking for ways to bring us together so that we could enjoy each other. Golfing, fly-fishing and bird hunting with gun dogs, Grace and Jake, were hobbies that Sid loved. In his spare time he would escape and do the things that he loved with those that he cared about. Always considerate of others, Sid tried to include others by inviting them to come and enjoy life, and his passions with him. All that know Sid are aware of his generosity. His language of love was to do and to give to others, supplying their need from his abundance. His sons Carson and Steve were frequent benefactors and co-contributors in this regard. Working with Dad on a project was always hard work but he made working fun and a learning experience that provided mutual benefits. As a business man Sid was well known for his fairness and regarded for being highly principled; never taking advantage of anyone and always paying his bills. In terms of his career satisfaction Sid was always most proud of his Military Service in the U.S. Navy. Leaving High School as a Junior to join the Navy he achieved the rank of Lt. Commander. He still keeps in touch with those that he served with and these lifelong friendships are some of he and Virginia's most prized possessions. Sid's youngest son Steve wrote this poem for his father and it sums our feelings quite well. "Simple truth with gentle love, That is my father crafted from the Lord above. His life a poem of the Lord's design One of His blessings on mankind. No matter the problem we brought to our dad, His answers without judgment made our hearts glad. His patience and understanding seeing what's best for us. Reminds me of the saying, In God We Trust. The Lord's love for us is without measure. The time He gave us with our father I will always treasure. A soldier, husband, and father, all hats he wore. And in his service to us all, he was true to the core. For he was an expression of our Heavenly Father. Helping his fellow man was no bother. He lives in us all that truth and gentle love, One last gift from the Lord above." In situations like this Sid was not a big fan of spending money on flowers. If you would like to make a donation to Helpline or the charity of your choice in Sid's honor, the family would greatly appreciate it. We feel so blessed to have been able to know and love some one so wonderful. The earth is poorer but heaven is richer now that he has left us to be with his Lord. Let up pray that God will comfort all who mourn and bring us the peace that surpasses understanding. AMEN
