Stephen Ernest Ashton

May 8, 1937 — November 11, 2020

Stephen E Ashton was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 8, 1937. He moved to Maine as a young child where his parents owned a corner grocery store that he worked in during his childhood. After graduating as the valedictorian of the class 1955 from Waterville High School, he joined the Air Force. He served 2 years then attended college where he earned Master's degrees in Computer Science and Physics. His job was somewhat of a mystery to most. He developed and tested detonation systems on torpedoes for the government. He would never tell you, but he was also a member of Mensa.

He married Arlyne Henderson in June 1961. They were competitive ballroom dancers and taught many students how to move around a dance floor. They were married until her death in July 2012.

He met and married Elizabeth Trueman in 2013. They were popular members of the Bremerton Elks and the Kitsap Winter Club. He was very proud to own his own tux! Dressing for the formal dances and sharing great food with friends and family was something they both really enjoyed. Traveling was something Stephen came to appreciate later in life. One of his favorite trips was to Paris with Elizabeth. He loved the food and sites of France.

He was curious about everything! He would research things for hours on his Apple computers. He was a quiet man that loved animals, especially his dogs, Mambo and Tango.

He will be missed by his family, Jeff and Susie Ashton of Federal Way, his grandchildren Ryan and Jennifer. From the start, he fit right in with Elizabeth's family, Schelley York, her husband Carl and her kids, Samantha, Evan, Megan, Jimiko, Craig and Julia. Our Star Wars parties and holiday celebrations won't be the same without him.
