Teresa Ann Winchester-Lipsey, after sixty-one years of an extraordinary life, passed away on the 11th of Oct., 2012. She was with her family in Renton, Washington.
Born to Cliff and Barbara (Kerr) Britton on the 26th of Sept., 1951. Teresa grew up in Seattle and had become a strong, stubborn woman by the time she graduated from Chief Sealth High School in 1969. When she married Alan Lipsey in 1983, she was already the formidable mother of two. Together Alan and Teresa raised four children Jennifer, Jay, Ellen and Andrew (Deceased).
As a young woman she worked at Washington Natural Gas Company. She later retired from the Seattle Police Department. Afterwards she devoted her life to foster children and family. Teresa was very involved in the community, working with the Basket Brigade and the I.M.O Foundation. She attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor, Supervised the Port Orchard Farmers Market and participated in Habitat for Humanity.
Fueled by Diet Coke and Red Vines, Teresa was an avid bargain hunter and meticulous cleaner. She was stoically old-fashioned, collecting antiques, French-milled soap, and angels, while ignoring new technology like microwaves or cell-phones. She had a soft spot for detective fiction and forensic TV shows, and she saw Officer and A Gentlemen in the theater 15 times.
Teresa was compassionate and fiercely devoted to her family. She was an anchor, a lifesaver, a support group, a rally point, a wife, a great-grandmother, a saint. Her indelible mark in the hearts and memories of her family will always be a source of strength and comfort.
Teresa is survived by her mother, Barbara, Husband, Alan, Sisters Carol, Jerrie and Carrie and brother Ken, children, Jenny, Jay and Ellen, grandchildren Blake, Kayla, Kolby, Logan, Ally, Addison and Parker and great grandchild Kenzie Layne.
Services will be 1:00pm, Thurs., Oct. 18th at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Burial to follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. Online memorial at
