Thomas J. Mason, 79, died on September 26, 2009 at Washington Veterans Home, Retsil, WA. He was born on August 5, 1930 to Thomas J. and Irene (Hise) Mason of Picher, Oklahoma. Mr. Mason completed grade school in Oklahoma; seventh through ninth grades in Bremerton, WA and graduated from Phoenix Union High in Phoenix, Arizona in 1949. He attended Phoenix College and then served with the United States Marine Corps in Korea from 1950 to 1952 and in 1953 at the Keyport Naval Station as Personnel /Office Manager Keyport, WA. Following his discharge, he attended Santa Rosa Junior College and Sacramento State College. He began his working career in the Oakland – San Francisco area. His career in construction included Project Manager, Superintendent, Estimator and Real Estate and Mortgage Appraiser. He was a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators. As a young man, he enjoyed photography, sailing the San Juan Island area, music, hunting and being outdoors. Survivors include his son, Stephen Woodward of California and Karen Woodward of Bellingham, WA; daughters Kathy Mason, Susie Mason, Cindy Mason and a son Tom Mason. Also a sister Mary L. Fields of Bremerton, WA He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Rebecca Mason and his parents Thomas J. Mason of Bremerton, WA and Irene (Hise) Mason of Modesto, CA; three brothers Albert J. Mason and Bill J., Mason both of San Leandro, CA and Roy L. Mason of Seattle, WA; sister Peggy I. Coester of Bremerton, WA as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under direction of Rill’s Life Tribute Center. Interment was at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA on Friday, October 2, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
