Tim George Mccarty

March 6, 1932 — July 20, 2016

Tim George McCarty born in Sultan, Washington on March 6, 1932 to Rex and Vera McCarty He passed away July 20, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.

Tim moved from Sultan to Index at the age of 5. When he was 8 his father's job on the railroad took the family to Lake Crescent on the Olympic Peninsula to live. There he had many adventures with his two older sisters Bette and Julia. Swimming all summer and enjoying the snow in the winter. There was wild life to watch also. Tim told me many times he would watch the deer swim across the lake. That was fun until one day he saw his dog Rusty swimming beside a deer. Rusty soon returned to shore and Tim was greatly relieved until the next time and the many times to follow. Tim grew up there and graduated from Crescent High School in Joyce, Washington. While in high school he competed in many sports - football, basketball, and track. He said their school was so poor that they didn't have very good uniforms to wear while playing football. What they did have had been donated and they had leather helmets and little to no pads to wear. While in track he came to Port Orchard to a tri-county meet and took 1st place in javelin. He took 2nd in shot put in 1951.

After graduating he attended Western in Bellingham wanting to become a teacher. When funds ran out he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Germany where he got into boxing. He was on a team that traveled to different bases to compete with other team. When he returned to the states he boxed in the Golden gloves in Tacoma while attending Bates Technical School. In 1958. Tim started the apprenticeship program at PSNS. In 1958 he married Marianne Pollock in Centralia, Washington. Shortly thereafter they moved to Bremerton. They had three children and were married for 15 years.

Tim loved his job and working with his hands. It wasn't long before he was working with his own crew and had become supervisor in shop 31. Tim and Carol met in 1975, were married in May 1976 and eventually moved on to their 60 acre parcel in 1979. They lived there for 37 yrs. Tim built everything, except the big shop and he had that built. After his retirement, he had many interests, most of it wood working.

He accomplished so much in his life and he had so much more he wanted to do .In the 90s they traveled to California, Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico. Tim had a love of music too. His favorite songs are " It's a Wonderful World", by Louis Armstrong and I'll Always Love You", by Whitney Houston. Irish tunes also. One of the last things he said was " I've Had a Good Run".

Tim leaves behind his wife Carol of the family home, his son Tim McCarty(Cindy) of Snohomish, WA; daughters, Cathleen McCarty (Terry White) of Ferndale, WA, Colleen Pylilo (Jack) of Oak Harbor, WA; step children Victor Zurn (Linda), Gregory Zurn (Debbie), & Christina Zurn; grandsons Christophor Luzic (Samantha).
