TODD PATRICK UNDERWOOD, 40, born Jan 11, 1975 in Tacoma, WA, passed away in Los Angeles, CA July 29, 2015 due to complications following emergency appendix surgery. Todd grew up in Port Orchard, WA graduating from South Kitsap HS in 1993. He attended WSU in Pullman from 1993 to 1998, earning a BA in Hotel & Restaurant Management. While at WSU Todd was a member of TKE Fraternity, working as their cook for the last 4 years of school. On graduation he accepted a job with Marriott Hotels and moved to Los Angeles, where he lived until his death. He left Marriott after 2 years and worked for Pepsi Cola for about 3 years, when he decided to go back to the food industry and accepted a job with a catering service. Todd’s latest venture was opening a Bed & Breakfast, which was a dream come true for him.
Todd joined the Boy Scouts when he was 10 years old and learned to love and appreciate the outdoors, learned to care about and help others, and developed a passion to get the job done. He earned his Eagle Rank and worked as a kitchen coordinator for two scout camps during summer breaks while at WSU.
While growing up in Port Orchard, Todd enjoyed camping with his family and friends, riding his 3 wheel ATV, learning to fix things from his dad, and participating in all scouting activities. He took drama in high school and won a part in the play Les Miserables. He entered talent competitions while attending McCarver Elementery School in Tacoma, where his dad was a teacher. He sang the” Gambler” to the whole school with no music accompaniment.
Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents Patrick & Elizabeth McHugh from SeaTac and Ben & Lois Underwood from Hoodsport, WA, his Aunt Patricia McHugh from Seattle, his Aunt Rita Underwood from Covington, WA, and his Uncle Eugene Underwood from Florida.
Todd is survived by his parents, Douglas & Jaxine Underwood, his brother Bret Underwood in Port Orchard, his Uncles Mike (Carmen) McHugh in Sumner, WA, John (Patti) McHugh in Tacoma, WA, & Brian (Ruby) Underwood in Rochester, WA, his Aunt Wanda Hines in Olympia, WA, his niece Payton Underwood in Port Orchard, WA, and 15 cousins and 24 second cousins. Todd also leaves many friends in California.
Todd was a sensitive, considerate, and compassionate person, dedicating much of his short life to helping others. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
We are having a gathering in remembrance of Todd and to celebrate his life at Rill’s Life Tribute Center & Crematory 1151 Mitchell Ave Port Orchard, WA 98366 on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at 2 PM.
