Tommy Matsumoto

May 24, 1928 — February 27, 2008

Tommy was born in Fresno California on May 24, 1928 to Inayoshi and Shigeno Matsumoto. During World War II his family was interned in Camp Posten 2, Arizona. After the war the family relocated to Colorado. He graduated from high school, 1945, in Greely Colorado. He joined the Army and served 3 years as part of the Occupation Forces of Japan. Tommy earned his Master's in Business Education in 1954 at Greely State College. He taught in Oregon at Siletz High School in 1954. He came to Bremerton in 1955 and taught office occupation classes in the Business Department at Olympic College until he retired in 1992. At OC he coached track and golf. On August 10, 1968, he married Joyce Yeadon in Bremerton and they lived in East Bremerton and since 1977 on Tiger Lake in Belfair. Tommy?s children are Jason (wife Linda) Matsumoto of Seattle, and David (wife Julianna) Matsumoto of Tacoma. His brothers are Jesse, Turlock, California and Ben, Aurora, Colorado. His sisters are Ayako Matsumoto, Broomfield, Colorado, Mary Yokooji, Firestone, Colorado, Peg Osuga, Evergreen, Colorado, and Shari Revier, Broomfield, Colorado, and he has many nieces and nephews who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and brothers Henry, Bob, and Shigeru. Tommy's life was centered on his wife, sons, and friends. He loved golfing with his brother-in-law, Keith Yeadon. He died of Alzheimer's. His memory faded but he knew that he was loved and treasured by family and friends who will miss him and are grateful for the life they had with him. Tommy will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington on Wednesday, March 5, at 11:30 am. Tommy's family and friends will gather at Tiger Lake to celebrate his life on his 80th birthday in May. Memorial donations may be made to the North Mason Boys and Girls Club, PO Box 214, Belfair, WA 98528.
