Vera was born in Donnybrook North Dakota on Feb. 14, 1935 to Waldon Harry Smith and Irene Capitola Thompson Smith. She was a triple valentine, born on the 14th and weighed 14 lbs, 14 oz.
Vera married Lawrence Otis on August 5, 1950. They had three children, Monty Edwin Otis, Pamela Eloise (Otis) Mattingly and Victoria Ellen (Otis) Sandstrom. After separating from Larry, Vera moved to Washington State where she met and married Eugene William Brown on September 1, 1968. Vera and Gene had 2 children, Eugene Steve Brown and Mary Susan Brown.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene Brown, siblings Delores McClure, LaVerne Smith, Leslie Smith, Vincent Smith, Leon Smith, Eunice Sauer Knapp and LaVonne Bond, her step brother Leonard Blowers as well as three of her children, Monty Edwin Otis, Eugene (Gene) Steve Brown and Mary Susan Brown.
Vera is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Pam) Mattingly and son in law Jim Mattingly, Victoria (Vicki) Sandstrom and son in law Don Sandstrom, nine grand children and twenty great grandchildren.
Vera loved to cook and bake and enjoyed making treats for friends and family. Prior to her stroke in 2023, she loved giving special treats to her friends in the apartments. She loved music and taught herself to play the guitar. She enjoyed dancing of any kind. She was a competition level shuffleboard player who won tournaments at both the local and regional level. Vera always had pets and really enjoyed taking care of them.
