Vera A. Horton, age 87, died June 11, 1999 in Port Orchard, WA. She was born July 1, 1911 in Alliance, NE to John and Alice Wright. She graduated from Alliance High School in Nebraska in 1928, and from Chadron Normal College in Chadron, NE. She also graduated from University of Washington in Seattle, WA with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She was a school teacher and homemaker. She retired from teaching school in 1974. She taught school for 4 years in the rural schools of Nebraska, for 3 years as a kindergarden teacher in South Kitsap School District, and for 12 years in the Central Kitsap School District at Chico Elementary and Jackson Park. She was also a member of the First Christian Church, retired teachers association, Royal Neighbors of America and the South Kitsap Senior Citizens Group. She enjoyed traveling, reading and being with her family. She is survived by her sons Rev. Tom Horton of Seattle, WA., Lanny Horton of Port Orchard, WA., sister Doris Wright of Alliance, NE., 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Larry Marvin Horton, daughter Lorraine Grabel, husband Loran Horton and 3 brothers. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Lane Cemetery Wednesday June 16, 1999 at 1:30 p.m.
