Viola Hentila

June 27, 1921 — December 8, 2011

Viola Hentila, age 90, died December 8, 2011 at home in Port Orchard, WA. She was born June 27, 1921 in Harper, OR to Warren Alfred & Irene Frances (Gugle) Schlupe. She moved to Kitsap County in 1939 and lived there ever since. She graduated from Bremerton High School and worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard briefly during the Second World War. Viola married Martin “Bud” Hentila on July 3, 1942 and lived with him in the home they built together until his death in July 2000. Viola loved gardening and maintaining the many beautiful plants at their property in South Port Orchard. Other hobbies included traveling, dancing, clam digging and fishing. In her younger days she was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Yukon Harbor Volunteer Firefighters Wives Club. Surviving are daughter Arlene Hoyer of Bremerton; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sister Emmaline Hansen of Boise, ID. She was preceded in death by sisters Alma Dunigan and Della Pease and brothers Leroy Schlupe and Benny Schlupe.  Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on December 17, 2011 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
