Violet Mays

September 2, 1935 — September 17, 2012

Violet Lorraine Mays, 77, a resident of Port Orchard, died September 17, 2012 in Bremerton. She was born in Helena, Montana on September 2, 1935 to Lawrence and Dorothy (Hazen) Dempsey. She married Calvin E. Mays on September 3, 1960 and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Violet was retired from the Shipyard in 2000 as a program analyst. She worked as a Volunteer for the Crisis Clinic for 15 years and was active in the AA program for 25 years and Al-Anon Program for about 17 years.
If you knew our mother you knew of her love for QVC and that she could have been their queen. She had a wonderful sense of humor that took her through many rough times as well as the good times. She would be on the phone a lot between her volunteer work and the many people she sponsored in the programs. Along life’s journey she touched many lives with her compassion for others in need. She will forever be remembered in the hearts of many.
She is survived by her sons Nicolas Jensen (Lynda) of Redmond and Perry Mays (Amy) of Littleton, CO; daughter Susan Harty (Ron) of Port Orchard, step-son Michael Mays (Joann) of Kansas; grandchildren Lisa Wells (Ed), Leslie Frazier (Riley), Trevor Jensen (Christina), Christopher Harty (Baylee), Ryan Harty, Heather Masko (Shane), Megan Mays and Cole Mays, Michael Mays, Jr and Shawn Mays; great-grandchildren Lilley, Kenzi, Silas, Alethea and Kingston.
Committal service will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
