Violet Frances Peterson

March 8, 1929 — January 16, 2015

Violet Frances Leona Peterson, 85, died in Port Orchard, WA on January 16, 2015. She was born March 8, 1929 in Twin Falls, ID to Harry Frances & Violet Lenora (Johnson) West. She graduated from South Kitsap HS in 1947 and married Robert R. Peterson in Port Orchard on April 19, 1947. She remained a Port Orchard resident her entire life.

She enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, motorcycle riding, crocheting & knitting, bowling, genealogy and traveling. But it was her family and her dogs & cats that filled her life with the most joy.

Violet worked as a Bookkeeper at Ridgemont Terrace Nursing Home for 13 years, retiring in 1982. She was such a thoughtful and kind person. Many residents enjoyed her warm daily hellos and acknowledgements. Family and friends and friends of family and friends always commented on how welcomed Violet made them feel where ever she went.

Bravery comes in many forms. Violet was a brave woman. A young woman setting out from high school to become a newlywed after only knowing her husband of 53 years for a few short weeks is brave. Violet was also awarded the Carnegie Medal for Heroism in 1959 when she selflessly swam into the Puget Sound on a dark wet December night to rescue a woman from her sinking car. Bravery is when your husband is ill, hospitalized and facing multiple life threatening procedures. Bravery is letting your life time companion go before you and starting a life alone for the first time at age 71. Bravery is facing a life altering disease like Parkinson's. Violet was quietly fearful of being alone but very stoic never acknowledging her own bravery.

She would always divide the candy bar equally!

Surviving are her three daughters Linda (Ivan) Veach of Silverdale, WA, Terry (David) Fine of Birch Bay, WA and Lisa (Sean) Ebnet of Fallbrook, CA; brother Jim Hull; sisters Marilyn (Bobby) Phipps, Jackie Thompson & Crystal Hull; 6 grandchildren Darin Veach, Lori Poulin, Deena Canon, Aaron Davis, Shane Peck & Logan Ebnet; 15 great-grandchildren and long Time companion Chuck Harding. She was preceded in death by husband Bob and sisters Imogene Till & Carolie Bass.
