Waldon Laverne Smith, 81, of Port Orchard passed away peacefully Sunday Evening at Retsil Veteran’s Home.
He was born in Donnybrook, North Dakota to Waldon and Irene Smith.
On Aug. 28, 1958, he married the love of his life, Sylvia Carol Smith in San Francisco.
Waldon, a decorated Army war veteran, spent 20 + years serving his country earning The Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts in the Korean and Vietnam War. An avid “car guy” – he loved fixing up old cars, buying new cars, and going on drives.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Smitha and her husband Randy and Mechell Smith McNamee and husband Eric; six grandchildren, Morgan, Michael, Monica, Angela, Sylvia, and Jonathan; as well as his loving brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia and son, Marty.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 26th at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Retsil Veteran’s Home and Stafford Suites. Their dedication and effort to his care was deeply appreciated by the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. We know he is truly at peace and reunited with his wife and son.
