Warren E. Houk, a long-time resident of Port Orchard, passed away peacefully at his family’s home in Mississippi on Thursday, March 7, 2019, surrounded by those who loved him. He was 93 years old.
Warren was born on April 30, 1925, in Portland, OR. He joined the United States Navy in August 1942, and was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Navy in September 1964 and worked for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until winning the Washington State Lottery in 1983.
Warren loved to bowl, competing in local leagues and traveling to tournaments around the country for decades. Warren enjoyed recounting his travels around the world, especially his time in Antarctica and Australia. For over 30 years he could be found most mornings at the Hi Joy Bowl Restaurant for breakfast.
Warren is survived by his wife Doris of Port Orchard, his son and daughter-in-law David and Dorothy Houk of Ocean Springs MS, his granddaughter Dorothy Cates (Adam), grandson Andrew Houk (Hali) and great-granddaughter Stella Cates. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret, his second wife Dotty, his oldest son Richard Houk and his youngest son Warren E. Houk Jr.
The memorial service to celebrate Warren’s life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019, at 11:00 am, at the Rill Chapel, in Port Orchard, WA. It will be followed by a graveside service with military honors at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
