Warren “Mac” Hugh McMannamy was born on 14 July 1944, in Kalispell, Montana. Sadly, Mac passed away on April 13, 2023, at the age of 78, after losing his courageous battle with leukemia.
Mac grew up in Somers, Montana and attended high school in Kalispell, Montana where he was known as a wrestler and was given the nickname “Babe” for Babe the Blue Ox. Babe became a nickname he carried with him throughout his life. After high school Mac joined the military and served his country as a proud combat veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner for 20 years and during that time he married and had two children Robert and Pamela McMannamy. After serving his country, he began working for the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington as a stationary engineer, and continued that job for 22 years until he retired. In 1982 Mac met Janell Callahan and they married in 1984. Mac and his wife Janell became the owners of the HiTide Bar and Grill in Port Orchard, Washington in1987.
Mac had a passion for travel, exploring new places, meeting and making new friendships, and sharing time with his friends, fellow submariners and service members. Upon retirement and with all his children grown Mac and his wife Janell took their motorhome (which Mac absolutely loved driving) and traveled across the United States and flew several trips to explore Europe, meeting and making new lifetime friends. One of Mac’s most favorite trips was driving and staying on the coastline of Key West. After traveling in the motorhome for several years Mac and Janell decided to purchase a snowbird home in Arizona, where they would enjoy the warm weather, were welcomed and made new lifelong friends in an amazing community.
When not traveling he would spend time with what he called “his second home and family.” Mac loved spending time sharing a beer and stories with his HiTide family. As a family we would always joke how in the first few minutes of any conversation with someone new he would talk about how he owned a bar and how much his HiTide family meant to both him and Janell and to always extend an invitation of, “If you’re ever in Port Orchard, Washington please come by and have a drink!”
Mac was an amazing, adoring and thoughtful husband and was always so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, supporting them unconditionally and showering them with love and his vast knowledge of life experiences. Mac was preceded in life by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife Janell McMannamy; children Robert McMannamy, Pamela McMannamy, Michele Callahan, Michael Callahan and Rochelle Edwards; grandchildren Darin Owens, Ashley McDonnell, Kayla Callahan, Harley Callahan and Sara Edwards; and ten great grandchildren.
