Wayne Wolf passed away in Bremerton, WA on February 17, 2013 after a courageous battle with Early Alzheimer’s Disease. Though he has passed on, he left those whose lives he has touched with fond memories. Over the course of his life he taught those around him about love, caring, loyalty and dedication. He lived his life with integrity and honesty and he earned the title of the “ World’s Greatest Dad” according to “his girls”.
Wayne Wolf was born in Moorehead, MN on July 24, 1941 and came to live in the Puget Sound area when his family moved to Washington State during WWII to work for the war effort at PSNS. Growing up Wayne looked up to his parents Bob and Genevieve and he loved being an older brother to his sister Gayle. Wayne attended high school at South Kitsap where he was known for his cool car, baseball skills, and love of Elvis Presley. As a senior he aced the apprenticeship test for PSNS, took a two week summer break then went off to work. He worked for PSNS as a Planner & Estimator for 35 yrs and 1 month. During his service he earned many commendations and traveled to far off places like Subic Bay, Tokyo, Guam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and navy ports on both West and East Coasts.
But Wayne would most like to be remembered as a father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, coach, coworker, and a great golf buddy to those who knew and loved him. Wayne touched so many lives. As a coach, he was one of the “founding fathers” of the SK Soccer Club and coached the South Park Pharmacy Girls soccer team for many years. Many of his players can share memories of how Wayne as their coach has influenced their lives. And as a golf buddy dad went golfing at many different courses, always looking forward to his yearly Bonzai trip with his golf buddies.
As a father, Wayne went above and beyond what a dad usually has to do. When his wife was ill and disabled he took on the duties of both parents. In doing so he taught his daughters about love, family, caring for one another, and making the most out of life. He was there for them in health and in sickness, and his daughters and his sister Gayle were there for him in kind when he passed away at Hospice; both daughters were surrounding him with love and care as he took his last breath. The last few years were hard for Wayne and his family, but his family made the most of the bad hand dad was dealt and took him on a bucket list of trips around the state. His last years were thus filled with memories of trips to the ocean, the mountains and to the San Juan Islands. Wayne’s most precious memories involved all the members of his family, and he loved the family “get togethers” which often involved family jam sessions led by his parents. He is going to be sorely missed by all his loved ones.
Wayne leaves behind his daughters Paris Wolf and Wendy Wolf, both of Port Orchard, WA; his sister and brother in law Gayle & Raymond Rice; Uncle Col. Eugene Brady and his wife Norma; his Aunt and Uncle Mable and Fred Honeycutt; and many nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Delores Wolf and his son Wade Wolf.
A ceremony will be held at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, WA on Tuesday, February 26 at 1PM with a reception following. All who have known Wayne are invited to attend and welcome to share fond memories of Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kitsap Hospice or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
