Wendell ''Windy'' L Burgess, age 78, died June 1, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. He was born June 24, 1922 in Lynden, WA., to Io and Maude Burgess.He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1940. Mr. Burgess married Rose (Perelli) Burgess on January 7, 1941 in Bellingham, WA.Mr. Burgess served in the U.S. Navy as a radar man from 1944-1946. Mr. Burgess worked as a truck driver. He then owned and operated a gas station in Seattle, WA., worked in landscaping and was a state park ranger at Blake Island and Deception Pass. He moved to Port Orchard and hauled logs for the Taylor Bay Logging Co., He then formed an excavation company with his son-in-law. Following this Mr. Burgess was a courier in the real estate business.Windy was the President of the Lost Cord Club of Pierce County for Laryngectomies and was also involved in the Bremerton groupof Laryngectomies and Gardening.Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife Rose of Port Orchard, WA., sons Dr. Rockie Burgess of Des Moines, WA., Bill Burgess of Port Orchard, WA., daughter Sandy Hutto of Port Orchard, WA., 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by 4 sisters and 1 brother.Memorial services will be held at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, WA., June 7, 2001 at 1:00 p.m.
