Wendell Smith

September 6, 1920 — March 14, 1999

Wendell 'Max' Smith, 78 of Port Orchard, died at Washington Veterans Home, Retsil on March 14, 1999.  He was born September 6, 1920 in Champion, Nebraska to Ray F. & Vinabelle (Browning) Smith.  He was raised in Salem Oregon and Bremerton, Washington.  He married Elaine M. Christian July 13, 1974 in Port Orchard, Washington.Max served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946 as a Sheetmetal Worker.  He worked for 21 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Sheetmetal Worker, retiring in 1965.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard.Surviving are his wife; son Jerry Smith of Seattle; stepsons Maurice Hoyt of Port Orchard, Raymond Hoyt of Olalla, Merrill Hoyt of Kamiah, Idaho, Richard Hoyt of Port Orchard; daughter Peggy Stratton of San Juan Islands, Washington; stepdaughter Donna Buckendorf of Peell, Washington; brother Robert Smith of Salem, Oregon; sister Toby Smith of Portland, Oregon; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.Private Family Services are planned.
