Willard Hoover

November 29, 1911 — September 4, 2000

Willard Raymond Hoover, age 88, died Sept. 4, 2000 in Port Orchard, WA. He was born Nov. 29, 1911 in Otter Creek, Iowa to Samuel and Sophronia (Ritchey) Hoover. Mr. Hoover graduated from Woodburn High School in Woodburn, IA in 1929 and attended Olympic College in Bremerton, WA. He married Nora Irene (Cromer) Hoover in Buffalo, MT., on March 24, 1935. Mr. Hoover worked for the Navy's Supervisor of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair in Seattle and at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 29 years before retiring in 1970. He was a charter member of District 7 Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for a number of years. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Port Orchard, WA., and served as an Elder from March 1955 until Sept. 1994. He is survived by his wife Nora of Port Orchard, WA., sons Raymond Hoover of Magnolia, TX., Bill Hoover of Seabeck, WA., daughter Helen ''Len'' Lewis of Port Orchard, WA., sisters Lucille Whorton of Lewiston, ID., Wilma Koski of Lewiston, ID., 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister Velma Horton.Visitation will be at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, WA., Sept. 6 from 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. and Sept. 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Memorial services will be at the Port Orchard Church of Christ, Sept. 8, 2000 at 11:00 p.m. Interment will be at Fraola Cemetery in Port Orchard at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2000.
