William Gerard Hammel III, age 47, died Dec. 28, 1999 in Port Orchard, WA. He was born May 12, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA., to William Hammel, Jr., & Vera (Horne) Hammel where he was raised. He graduated from high school in Pittsburgh, PA and Penn State College in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1976 at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He most recently worked as a contract manager at GenErect, Inc for the past 9 years. Mr. Hammel also worked for the L.H. Sowles Company from 1986 until 1993. He was a U.S. Chess Federation Life Member. In 1986 he married Catherine (Flaxman) Hammel in Roselle, IL. He is survived by his mother Vera Hammel of Pittsburgh, PA., wife Catherine Hammel of Port Orchard, WA., sons William Hammel IV of Pittsburgh, PA., Jason Hammel of Port Orchard, WA., Gunther Hammel of Port Orchard, WA., daughters Athena Hammel of Pittsburgh, PA., Danae Hammel of Port Orchard, WA., brothers Mark Hammel and Steve Hammel both of Pittsburgh, PA., and sister Barbara McMillen of Pittsburgh, PA. He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tanya Hammel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hammel Family Trust for the minor children at any Kitsap Bank branch. A celebration gathering will be at the family home in Port Orchard, WA., January 1, 2000 at 2:00 p.m.
