William Lawrence McIlvoy, 79 of Port Orchard died November 16, 2008. He was born February 15, 1929 in Gettysburg, South Dakota to Thomas & Ina (Cartwright) McIlvoy, Sr. William grew up on a big farm in South Dakota with his parents and younger brother. During the 13 years he lived there, he experienced the Great Depression and World War II. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the family moved to Bremerton where his parents worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. At age 18, William followed in their footsteps and went to work at PSNS, retiring after 32 years with a full pension. William lived through the death of FDR, the Cold War, Korean War, Kennedy & Martin Luther King, Jr. assassinations, Nixon and Vietnam. He liked to take trips to the ocean and traveled frequently to eastern Washington. He enjoyed action, musicals & country western movies on TV. His favorite was watching baseball games. He like country music, fast food, and Ford trucks - always kept his tank over half-full. Surviving are close friends Larry & Melanie Daehler and their family; and niece Theresa Martinez. Graveside service 11:00 am on November 29, 2008 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
