William James "Jim" Menchenton, 82 a resident of Port Orchard, died at his home of a massive heart attack on April 2, 2008. He was born March 21, 1926 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Lige and Catherine (Violette) Menchenton. Jim married Jeanne Lyman on June 14 1947 in San Francisco, California. Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea as a Gunners Mate and UDT "Frogman" Team Baker out of Coronado, California; also on board USS Boxer and USS Pine Island. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Shop 38 as an Outside Machinist and Production Dispatcher, retiring in 1982. He also worked for JJ Lettering maintaining machines from 1982 to 1995. He enjoyed SCUBA diving and was a member of the Olympic Lancers and Sheriff's Search and Rescue Diving Team; Bremerton Cruisers Motorcycle Club, Retreads Motorcycle Club, South Kitsap Good Sam RV Club, Bounders RV Club and was a private pilot. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Port Orchard. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeanne; son Michael Menchenton and Paul Menchenton (Katie) of Port Orchard and daughter Carol Clark (John) of Bremerton; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by granddaughters Denisse Menchenton & Melony Yates, and grandson Dawson Yates. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th from noon to 5:00pm and Wednesday, April 9th from 11:00am to 3:00pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 3:00 pm at Rill's Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
