William Roberts

December 4, 1960 — October 30, 2001

William(Bill/Chuck) Charles Roberts, 40, lost a six year battle with cancer October 30, 2001 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton with his family and close friends at his side. Tears were shed but we rejoice knowing that he died peacefully and with grace.Bill was born December 4, 1960 in Spokane, Washington and raised by Dorothy and Daniel Roberts of Port Orchard. He grew up in Bremerton and graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1979. He worked as a truck driver for Vitro and Brem Air Disposal and his interests included golf, dirt bike riding, carpentry and many outdoor activities. He is survived by his wife, Jeanine,(they were together for ten years), whom he married in 1995; a son, Darrel Roberts of Poulsbo; a stepdaughter, Mandy Latham of Bremerton; and eight brothers and sisters; Kristine Sturgis of Kansas, John Claflin of Ohio, Larry Claflin of Gig Harbor, Michael Roberts of Walla Walla, Daniel and Andrew Roberts of Port Orchard, Lori Sadler of Idaho, Melissa Sipe of Roy, Washington; plus sixteen nieces and nephews.Bill had a giving nature and great sense of humor. He was good company and brought happiness to his family and friends. True to his personality, he never complained about his illness and spared others the details of his medical treatments. Instead, he was curious about what others were doing and feeling. This is just one of the reasons he was loved.Bill had nicknames for everybody and to him a goodhearted tease was just second nature. He considered being a regular guy a compliment and enjoyed the company of his many friends because he had the ability to be a good friend. In quiet moments, Bill knew that the care of his wife and family sustained him in his difficult times. In the love of his life, ''Doll Face''(Jeanine) he found a true companion and very best friend. His love for his children, Darrel and ''M'' (Mandy) knew no bounds. If life could have been different, all the love Bill had to give to his sisters and brothers, wife and children would have brought them nothing but happiness. He sought faith in his own individual way and the Lord must have recognized someone whose soul belonged more to Heaven than on Earth, even though he was so young and full of life. At the end of his life, his caregivers were amazed at his determination to get well, but the years of battling cancer took their toll. He no longer had the strength to survive.Bill's death leaves a void in the lives of all those who knew and loved him. Peace and eternal happiness are the rewards of a good life.
