Wilma Laird

February 4, 1946 — July 3, 2012

Wilma Laird, 66, of Port Orchard, WA, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, WA.  She was born Feb. 4, 1946 in Bonifay, FL to Glen and Flora Henderson and raised in the Niceville, FL area. The family moved to Kitsap County in 1980 where Wilma pursued her career of electronics and quality control while going to college after hours and received her degree from Olympic College. Wilma worked as a Q.A. inspector for Raytheon at Keyport and retired after 22 years in 2005. Wilma met J.K. Laird and was married in July 31, 1978 in Port Orchard. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas Henderson and sister Ida Henderson. She is survived by her husband J.K. of 33 years, daughter Cheryl and son in law Rick Morris, daughter Susan and son in law Jeff Knutson, grandchildren Krystal, Alyssa, Camron, and great grandchild Kylie, and brothers Ben, John, Winfred and Allen Henderson. J.K. & Wilma also raised their nephew Steve Jeffcoat from his early teenage years and were proud to consider him the son they never had. Wilma’s passion was southern cooking and all who dined at the home enjoyed her skill set in the kitchen. From red beans & rice to fish with hushpuppies she covered it all with flare. Wilma was also known to whip up custom cakes and holiday sweets no one could deny. Wilma was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) and along with J.K. toured several western states over the years. These past 10 years Wilma set her sights on learning gardening of flowers but her forte was the master of vegetable crops in her garden of which she was so proud. She also enjoyed needlework producing many Afghans and table decorations as well as playing computer games, Face Booking, and was an avid reader.   There will be a celebration of life at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, 2:00 pm Saturday, July 14, 2012.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart and American Lung Associations.
